Exciting Basketball News

07 Jul 2010 by SESSA Admin

SESSA & BASKETBALL ENGLAND REACH NEW ACCORD

The Sessa Basketball competitions for 2010/11 will have an entirely new format.

The Leagues will now consist of a series of triangular matches. In addition, working closely with Basketball England SESSA will sponsor 3 one day Turn Up and Play (2v2 and 3v3 tournaments). These will run in different parts of London, one in Central, one South, and one West London.

The first of these will be held on 6th Oct – venue to be announced. All interested Colleges should register their interest and send someone along so that the rules can be explained for forthcoming season.

After Christmas we will have an early tournament, and then again in the Spring.

Venues for the League

We are Seeking HOST VENUES for SESSA Basketball

Colleges/Universities that have a keen interest in basketball should express
an interest to become a host venue.

A host venue will be expected to provide match & table officials for a
series of triangular matches that will played at their venues.

The host venue will have the advantage of playing the majority of their
matches at home.

Format and Rules for the League Matches

All match league days will be set up as Triangular. Each match will be 10 minutes each way with a 2 minute break and 1 time out per half.of up to 1 min.

Format will be as follows A v B, B v C, C v A.

Matches will start at 2:30. First round finished by 2:55, second match start at 3:00 finished by 3.25, third match start 3.30 finished by 3:55.  The clock will stop only for injury and time outs.

Officials and Costs

All teams will be asked to contribute to officials costs (probably max £60) so they will be divided by a third. If teams pull out after midday on the Tuesday preceding a match then they will be liable for half the cost of all officials and refs and court cost.

If a team arrives late, and is unable to start match on time, a win will be awarded at 10 -0 to the non-offending team. The cost will still be awarded against team (arriving late will be deemed to be not on court ready to play within 5 minutes of original start time). You can still play if you want to, but it won’t be counted and the team who were late loses the game.

If team pulls out on day of match or in advance, the two remaining teams will play four quarters of 10 minutes using normal rules of Basketball. Costs will be shared a quarter each

Dates

Depending on entries we plan to have match days on Oct.13, 20, 27, Nov 3, 10, 17 and 24.

After Christmas

Again depending on entries, we plan to run two more Turn Up and Play days and a knock-out cup.
